Worn chic of the country kitchen

Difficult times favour ingenious ideas. The bigger the wish to manage at lower costs, the niftier the self-made or vintage accessories. Like always, the money planned for the build runs out considerably sooner than planned. Thus a room with vital importance had to be made liveable using a non-existent budget. This kitchen here is inspired by the principle of frugality and set to match the white Northern chasteness and Southern warm colours. The wall behind the work space didn't mustn't have been covered by ceramic tiles – the white colour coating is washable. The log-house that has been covered on the inside and on the outside with "breathing" paint surprises everyone who has ever seen yellowing log-houses – how different and how cool!

Robust is better than antique

Usually homemakers reject the communist-era robust furniture pieces. Not very old nor brand new farm furniture is presumably in a bad state – the drawers won't open and wardrobe doors have been covered by a multicoat of floor paint. Mostly dark brown and heavily removable disaster, scraping of which is not a job for just anyone. Still, if one was to pursue it, the communist-era beast can be magically transformed into something like a Mediterranean rustic beauty – this is the worn chic of the country home. The used and maybe even over-exploited antique should be given a warm flick on its nose – the ungainly constructed furniture fits into a country home much better than polished antiques. No need to worry, even if the D.I.Y. shows on every corner. That's the way it should be – this is a home for living not only dusting. And even the drawers will work, if they are sanded a bit and dried out properly.

Country home romantism in the form of stripes and tiles

The fabric option list for a country home is florid and wide. There is no escape from flower patterns in every decent country home. Flowers must be combined with serious stripes and tiles. The result is fun. Grandmother's laces fit in with the country home like a glove. Playing with fabrics is a challenge and a balancing-act on the borders of fine taste – whether enough is enough or not? But look for yourself. The cosy eclectic brazen chandelier almost boasts with its different-looking lamp globes. Personalism catches one's glance right away and everyone who enters the kitchen notices the lamp, decorated with shining flowers, tiles and stripes, that's hanging over the table. An honorary place on the wall is granted to Marju Villem's romantic and tone-appropriate rose painting. If flower paintings have undeservedly lost its place in the spotlight, then now it's the latest they should be revalued. The striped terrace doors' curtain adds a little marine knack to the kitchen, the striped closet curtain at the same time competes with the classical tile-covered floor. The old-fashioned curtain may hide a dish washer or a baking oven. The white-black-mix floor has a jagged dark port that has been laid down according to the future layout of the kitchen furniture and with longer forethought. Flower vines wiggle also on the sandy-looking daubed walls. For that purpose the skilled family father cut out a template and, by turning it one way or the other, filled the template out with white daub.

Ode to old porcelain

Worn or shabby chic favours that the used tableware be gentle and rosy. It is not minded if in the table set for entertaining guests has each dish, cup or glass from a different set. When pouring hot drinks from the ancient coffee jug everyone can feel the uniqueness of the moment. The old buffet-cupboard has been fitted with communist-era rose-printed faience tableware and a lunch set for twelve. Surprisingly, they are, contrarily to creating a feeling of resentment, immensely cute and suitable for the airy and relaxing country home environment. It has come the time, when the millions of tableware items, which were produced in Russian tableware plants, are laying around at re-utilisation centres and useless coffee sets can find devoted users who know how to show them on their shelves. Thus if you are not a fan of junk or porcelain items on open shelves, then the worn chic and airy style is not for you.
