When Aivar Sõerd, the former Minister of Finance and Director of the Tax Board, discusses his Kloogaranna summer house, he is not sparing with appraisal. To the request to characterise the sandy-looking and natural log-house in three words Aivar Sõerd gives five: "A Successful project. A successful realisation. Satisfaction. An enchanting beach line, a small and pretty well-kept village and a well-functioning neighbourhood watch are keywords in describing the onetime choice of location today. The general outlook of the village is mainly formed by log-houses. In the close versinity of Aivar Sõerd's and his family's summer house stand tall some reed-roofed round log houses. Next to them the laminated log has a different impact - the outlook of the summer home is modernly classical. The project is also unconventional – the triangular summer home has a discrete look from the street, but from the opposite side it is a refulgent building that is open to the sea, with a snug side-terrace and large windows. "Truly, everything has worked out nicely," comments Aivar. Contentment oozes out of the man even in the desolate and wintry time, when he turns his sight to the sea from the patio.
That the summer house had to turn out just the way it did, had Aivar felt already before. When plans came to realisation, all they had to do was put down their dream on paper. Luck had it that Finnlamelli didn't dig their heels in, when they saw the customised project. Though they might have had – such a summer house was not included in their list of catalogued choices. "The project was a difficult one, but they pulled through," the man praises the company. A summer house mustn't be huge. A compact and snug house on the outside is open and airy on the inside. Openness comes from the height of the building, but also since separating walls have not over-burdened the rooms. The seaside French windows are of much help – at times one might think that the pines grow in the living room. Carefully chosen natural interior finishing materials add dignity and snugness to the house. The little kitchen corner, private bedroom, snug sauna and open-balconied first floor area are big enough to suit the needs of Aivar Sõerd's five-member family. And nor do Aivar's vacation habits stress the need for huge inner rooms. He takes the work load off by mowing and maintaining the yard. And that's the space there is enough of.
It's clear to everyone that a log-house sits the best on the seaside. But why choose Finnlamelli, when there are other offers on the market? "I trust the Finnish build quality, it seems to me that long traditions and better log material are the reasons why we chose Finnlamelli," the man contemplates. "When I had set these criteria for myself, I didn't even have much choice." Also Aivar Sõerd doesn't have any bad comments on the working style of the company: "Everything went well. I was rather the one who got in the way of the construction crew's – the foundation wasn't ready in time and we hadn't come to a resolve on the colour scheme of the house. "I had a long line of colour samples set up in front of the house, finally we found the one." If during the construction boom people who had no actual training in construction were active in the sector, then Finnlamelli remained correct till the end. The future will soon bring new work: another nice log-building is planned on the lot. And that's when Aivar heads straight to correct and experienced builders.
"I felt that they really enjoyed what they did," Aivar Sõerd says concisely. And that says everything that's needed.
